The Morris Animal Foundation’s goal is to bridge science and resources to advance the health of animals. This goal will be achieved by offering foundation funds to projects that are:
hypothesis-driven,
humane research projects with high scientific merit, and
with the potential for significant impact.
The Foundation is seeking pre-proposals for research investigating reptile and amphibian health with special funds for chytrid (fungus) research. This request is focused on reptiles and amphibians and pre-proposals on other topics will not be accepted. To fund the most impactful research pre-proposals must demonstrate:
1) Defined animal health and/or conservation need;
2) Collaboration with natural resource managers, communities, and policy makers
before, during and after the research; and
3) Clear strategy for achieving project outcomes.
Grants will be awarded in the following 3 categories:
1. Established Investigator: Applicants for this award must have a record of expertise demonstrated through peer-reviewed publication. The maximum project period is 36 months. The average award is expected to be approximately $100,000, However there are no set budgetary ceilings.
2. First Award: First Award grants have been established to support new independent researchers by supporting them during their early career research.
Applicants must have a:
PhD, DVSc, DVM, or equivalent degree, and
Permanent position in a university, accredited zoo or conservation
organization,
non-academic equivalent.
Principal investigators (PIs) should have a history of research publication as a co-PI or co-I. Individuals currently in residency programs are not eligible. The maximum duration of this award is 24 months, and the total budget cannot exceed $120,000.
3. Pilot Study: The Pilot Study Award will provide funding for proof-of-concept studies in animal health research. The maximum project period is 12 months, with a total budget max of $20,000.
