Morris Animal Foundation: Reptile and Amphibian Health and Welfare Research

The Morris Animal Foundation’s goal is to bridge science and resources to advance the
health of animals. This goal will be achieved by offering foundation funds to projects that
are:
 hypothesis-driven,
 humane research projects with high scientific merit, and
 with the potential for significant impact.

The Foundation is seeking pre-proposals for research investigating reptile and
amphibian health with special funds for chytrid (fungus) research. This request is
focused on reptiles and amphibians and pre-proposals on other topics will not be
accepted. To fund the most impactful research pre-proposals must demonstrate:
1) Defined animal health and/or conservation need;
2) Collaboration with natural resource managers, communities, and policy makers
before, during and after the research; and
3) Clear strategy for achieving project outcomes.

Grants will be awarded in the following 3 categories: 
1. Established Investigator: Applicants for this award must have a record of
expertise demonstrated through peer-reviewed publication. The maximum project
period is 36 months. The average award is expected to be approximately
$100,000, However there are no set budgetary ceilings.
2. First Award: First Award grants have been established to support new
independent researchers by supporting them during their early career research.
Applicants must have a:
 PhD, DVSc, DVM, or equivalent degree, and
 Permanent position in a university, accredited zoo or conservation
organization,
 non-academic equivalent.
Principal investigators (PIs) should have a history of research publication as a
co-PI or co-I. Individuals currently in residency programs are not eligible. The
maximum duration of this award is 24 months, and the total budget cannot
exceed $120,000.
3. Pilot Study: The Pilot Study Award will provide funding for proof-of-concept
studies in animal health research. The maximum project period is 12 months,
with a total budget max of $20,000.

Pre-proposals have a deadline of October 23, 2024. Selected proposals will be invited
to submit a full proposal with a due date of January 23, 2025. For complete program
